Grassroots Marketing: Talbots & White House/Black Market

Two prominent retailers are returning to grassroots marketing of hosting parties. Talbots and White House/ Black Market allow loyal customers to host a special shopping evening for invitees.

According to MediaPost , Talbots chooses a loyal customer to “Host” a shopping experience for the evening. The hostess invites friends and family to partake in refreshments and special product introductions provided by the store. White
House/ Black Market employs a similar program where the store closes for the hostess and attendees. Refreshments are served as well as individual attention by customer service representatives.

This is a return to the Direct Sales days of hosting intimate parties at home, but this time the hostess doesn’t need to clean. Retailers are expanding the ways to create a positive shopping experience for customers. Intimate shopping with friends, refreshments, and superior customer service certainly allows the customer to leave with a positive memory. What are other ways you see companies approaching customer experience in a new way? Is this an effective way to build customer loyalty?
